4 Traits of a Beautiful Smile
February 17, 2021
Everyone wants to feel confident about their smile. One of the greatest things about living in today’s world is the fact that you don’t need to settle for a smile that you aren’t proud to show off. Everyone has their own idea of what beauty is, but there are also some general traits that most people find attractive. Continue reading to learn about just some of the many traits that contribute to a beautiful smile and how cosmetic dentistry can help.
White Teeth
Tooth discoloration occurs naturally over time, but many people don’t feel nearly as confident when they have staining in their smile. When you eat and drink foods and beverages that are highly pigmented, like red wine, coffee, and berries, discoloration happens much faster than it normally would. Smoking is another way that teeth get a yellow hue over time. Fortunately, this can be corrected with a number of cosmetic treatments, like teeth whitening. This can be done both in-office and in the comfort of your own home with a take-home whitening kit. Porcelain veneers and cosmetic bonding can also be used to cover up stains.
Gum Color
Gums that are in good health tend to have a firm, pink appearance. When the gum tissue is red, swollen, or bleeding when you brush or floss your teeth, this is typically a sign that you have gum disease. This can be reversed early on with proper oral hygiene and by seeing your dentist.
Proportion of Gums to Teeth
For you to have strong teeth, you must also have healthy gum tissue to support them. However, some people feel that their smile looks a little bit too ‘gummy’ if they have teeth that are slightly smaller. The good news is that there is a solution out there. Porcelain veneers can be placed on undersized teeth to give your smile a more even appearance. They can also fix teeth that are chipped, misshapen, or have another cosmetic issue.
Spacing Between the Teeth
Teeth that are spaced apart properly barely touch each other. When they are too far apart, this can give you the appearance of gaps between your teeth, which isn’t generally considered cosmetically appealing. If you have small gaps between your teeth, this may be able to be corrected with cosmetic bonding or porcelain veneers.
Beauty is in the eye in the beholder. In order to help you reach your smile goals, cosmetic dentistry is an option. This way, you can show off your pearly whites with pride!
