Frequently Asked Dental Questions
When it comes to their teeth and dentistry in general, people have tons of questions. Fortunately, Dr. Cowell and the rest of our staff have tons of answers! Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions we receive every day. If you still have a question for us after reading through this page, go ahead and give us a call!
How often should I come in for checkups and cleanings?
Dr. Cowell, along with the American Dental Association, recommends that the average person should have at least two checkups and cleanings each year. Some may require more depending on their particular needs, but for most, two is enough to help protect them from the most common dental problems.
Why are checkups and cleanings important?
While brushing and flossing at home are essential to sustained oral health, they simply aren’t enough to meet all of a patient’s dental needs. A professional cleaning is able to reach those spots in the mouth that your tools at home cannot, and checkups give Dr. Cowell the chance to catch and treat dental problems way before you’ll likely notice them. Between a consistent home routine and regular preventive visits, we can help a patient stay cavity and gum disease free for years at a time.
Do you accept children?
Yes! Our dental office is more than happy to treat patients of all ages, including DeLand’s littlest smiles. We advise parents to bring their child in for a “Get to Know Us” appointment around age 1, and then they can start coming in for regular checkups at age 3 or 4.
What can you do to make my smile look better?
Thanks to cosmetic dentistry, we can do just about anything you’d like! Want whiter teeth? Ready to get rid of that chip or gap that has bothered you for years? We have treatments that can do it all, and we’ll work with you to design your dream smile and make it a reality in less time than you think!
Do I have to get metal braces to straighten my teeth?
Not anymore! Invisalign is a clear aligner system, and it can straighten the teeth without affecting a person’s daily appearance. The trays are practically invisible, and you can even take them out whenever it’s time to eat or brush your teeth! It’s perfect for the working adult who’s looking to improve their smile discreetly.
Do you accept dental insurance?
Yes, we are happy to accept and file claims for a long list of insurance plans. How can we use your particular plan to help you save? Just give us a call with your policy information in hand to find out!
Can I finance my dental care?
Yes. Our dental office accepts a variety of payment plans from our trusted partners at CareCredit. To explore their different plans and find one that works for your budget, simply click on the link on our new patients page.
